Elastic Selection Guide for Lingerie, Sportswear and Waistbands

Define the use and wearer
Identify where the elastic will be used, how it is attached, the garment fabric and the level of support or hold expected. Waistbands, leg openings, lingerie and sportswear each have different construction and comfort considerations.
Agree the finished width, colour, exposed or enclosed application and the intended feel. The product should be evaluated in the finished garment, where fabric and construction affect performance.
Evaluate stretch, recovery and comfort
Test extension and recovery using a repeatable method relevant to the application. Check softness, edge finish, bulk and how the elastic feels against skin or through the fabric.
If the product is washed or used actively, include the relevant care and wear conditions in sample evaluation. Avoid assuming that a nominal width or material description alone establishes suitability.
Approve with a garment sample
Sew elastic into a representative sample and inspect fit, gathers, attachment, comfort and appearance. Confirm the production method with the sewing team before bulk approval.
Document the approved specification, colour, width, application and sample. Contact JGE to discuss options against the end use and quantity required.
